Age Gap Tensions and On Set Awkwardness Behind Young Sheldon Romance

Emily Osment is opening up about the internal struggle she faced while filming romantic scenes with costar Montana Jordan on the hit comedy Young Sheldon. According to details revealed in Jessica Radloff’s new tell all book, Osment found herself feeling deeply unsettled by the twelve year age difference between her and Jordan during their early work together. At the time, Osment was thirty years old while Jordan was only eighteen, leading the actress to describe her costar as essentially a baby with a mullet.

To navigate these uneasy feelings, Osment requested the assistance of an intimacy coordinator to ensure boundaries were respected and choreography was handled professionally. While production was unable to secure one immediately for the first instance, they provided a specialist for subsequent episodes as the characters’ relationship progressed. Co creator Steve Molaro supported the decision, noting that Osment had every right to ask for professional intervention to feel safe and comfortable on set.

The awkwardness extended beyond just the age gap, as director Alex Reid recalled moments where the pair lacked basic chemistry simply because they were strangers. Reid described a particularly cringeworthy scene in a car where both actors looked away from each other between takes due to sheer embarrassment. This initial friction proved to be common growing pains for the duo, who eventually moved past their hesitation to develop a strong working rapport throughout the series and into its spin off project.
